Nanocellulose Extraction by Deep Eutectic Solvents

摘要

Currently, there is a growing demand for green, eco-friendly, and cost-effective processes for nanocellulose production. Deep eutectic solvents, a type of emerging green solvent, have gained significant attention in recent years for their unique advantages in nanocellulose preparation. These advantages include non-toxicity, low cost, easy synthesis, recyclability, and biodegradability. Numerous studies have investigated the effectiveness of various techniques and chemical pretreatment for nanocellulose extraction, particularly acid hydrolysis, TEMPO oxidation, and so on in nanocellulose production. In this chapter, we provide an overview of the latest progress in utilizing these DES for nanocellulose production, focusing on the treatment procedures and key advantages they offer. Furthermore, we discuss the implementation of DES in cellulose nanofibrils and cellulose nanocrystal extraction, separately. By addressing this advancement in nanocellulose extraction by using DES, we can pave the way for the sustainable and large-scale production of nanocellulose.
