Diabetes Mellitus and Psychiatric Disorders

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) and psychiatric disorders are common comorbid conditions and both conditions can worsen the outcome of the other. Patients with DM should be routinely screened for psychiatric problems and those who screen positive must be evaluated in detail. Treatment should address both disorders simultaneously. Suitable psychological interventions, appropriate weight-neutral pharmacological agents, and lifestyle modification are essential to manage psychiatric morbidity.
