摘要

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is the leading cause of chronic kidney diseases (CKD) and end stage renal disease (ESRD) in the world. Both DM and acute kidney injury (AKI) are growing health concerns affecting large populations worldwide every year. While mortality for both entities is individually high, the two together have synergistic effects and worse outcomes. Even with advancements in modern medicine and renal replacement therapy, mortality rates have not significantly decreased in the past three decades. It is known that patients with dabetic Kidney disease (DKD) without AKI have a better prognosis than those with DKD with AKI. Knowledge of the synergy between these two entities is crucial to improving outcomes.
