摘要

Sequencing technology enables prenatal screening by noninvasive detection of fetal health through cell-free fetal DNA in the mother’s circulation. This approach offers early diagnosis of genetic anomalies without invasive procedures, reducing risks to both mother and fetus. Noninvasive prenatal testing using sequencing has become a routine screening tool globally, facilitating accurate identification of chromosomal abnormalities. Ongoing research explores sequencing’s potential to detect a broader spectrum of genetic conditions, including rare diseases and structural abnormalities. Despite its promise, challenges remain, including standardization of protocols, quality control measures, and ethical considerations. Understanding the advantages and limitations of prenatal sequencing is crucial for individualized screening based on risk profiles. Continued innovation in sequencing technology holds the potential to enhance prenatal care, leading to improved outcomes for expectant parents and their babies.
