An Investigation on the Use of N-Butanol, Biodiesel, and Biogas as Substitute Fuels in Dual Fuel Engines to Lower Exhaust Emissions

摘要

Modern life requires energy for every industrial as well as domestic process. In order to generate energy different kinds of fuels are employed that can be conventional and newer green fuels. Conventional fuels cause pollution and are continuously depleting. That’s why a lot of research is being conducted to obtain some alternative fuels having better characteristics than conventional fuel like petrol and diesel. Besides, there is an immediate need for research into viable alternatives to conventional fuels so that the least environmental impact of sustainable energy demand may be met as conventional fuels are depleted. Petrol and diesel are the most common types of fossil fuels known to mankind. Despite polluting the air and harming those in their zones, these two fuels are used in many commercial and industrial applications. Researchers are investigating new energy sources to reduce their dependence on damaging fossil fuels. In this study, n-butanol, Biodiesel, and diesel oil are mixed to create fuel blends in different proportions that are to be employed in a CI engine. The biogas flow rates of 10, 15, and 20 lpm were utilized in the comparison of the fuel blends BD80BU20, BD75BU25, and BD70BU30 for loads of 10, 40, 20, and 30 N m, respectively. BD70BU30 causes optimum emission of NOx. The break thermal efficiency (BTE) and BSEC are seen to be optimal in case of BD80BU20 and emissions of Hydrocarbon (HC) and Carbon Monoxide emission (CO) tests reveal that the BD80BU20 blend causes optimum performance of engine. Based upon this study, it can be concluded that BD80BU20 is the best blend to use for making it into fuel.
