A Novel Approach for Reliability and Sensitivity Characterization of Phasor Measurement Unit

摘要

This paper presents a technique for the performance evaluation of PMU in terms of reliability and sensitivity characterization. The PMU is considered as a device of five main modules. The mathematical model of PMU and its modules are developed using Markov probability theory and dynamic fault tree taking into account the redundancy of the system. The redundancy of sub-modules and their fault tree which were not considered earlier is the main highlight of this paper. Thus the novelty factor of this paper is redundancy of the entire system. The failure and repair rate of all the sub-modules are assumed equal in order to simplify the computations. A comparative study of Markov probability theory with other reliability method is also shown. The synchronization and time stamping on digitized data are performed by the satellite Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver. Also, the encountering frequency for each module is computed, and a timing diagram of the failure rate and repair rate is drawn. The simulation study is carried out to estimate the reliability of PMU using the given failure and repair rate, using a random number. The proposed model is simulated on MATLAB.
