A Novel Approach to Design a Multi-featured Smart TV Using Raspberry PI
摘要
By connecting varied objects over the Internet, the Internet of Things (IoT) opens new research possibilities. As a vehicle for audio-visual material, television benefits greatly. However, ordinary TVs sometimes lack innovative features and applications. This project uses Raspberry Pi, a cheap Linux and Python device, to make a TV smart. Tethering a Raspberry Pi to the TV via HDMI and installing several apps is the procedure. These apps include streaming Prime and YouTube material and playing media from USB or external HDDs. Mobile remote control, real-time news and weather updates, and PVR capability boost the TV's usability. This project also shows how to use Raspberry Pi as a VPN, Pi-hole, Linux-based ad, and Internet tracking blocker. Pi-holes are tailored for energy-efficient embedded devices like the Raspberry Pi. VPN integration augments security, functionality, and private network management. This initiative showcases how Raspberry Pi can augment a conventional television into a smarter iteration surpassing typical smart TVs in the market, and offering a broader spectrum of features and applications at a reduced cost.
