Navigating Challenges and Opportunities in Peer-to-Peer Energy Trading: A Comprehensive Review on Indian Scenario

Peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading presents an opportunity for a decentralized energy market where consumers and prosumers can directly exchange energy without intermediaries. This trading paradigm potentially catalyzes a shift toward a financially attractive model for both consumers as well as prosumers. In pursuit of India’s 2030 renewable energy targets, the government is also setting its foot in the P2P energy market by implementing various pilot programs. These initiatives focus on installing rooftop solar, improving the feasibility for net metering prosumers to shift to P2P trading, and facilitating exchanges with commercial and industrial consumers. This research paper provides a comprehensive review of the challenges and opportunities linked with P2P energy trading, with a specific focus on the Indian energy landscape along with ongoing projects for the trial runs.
