摘要

These days, there is a great deal of interest in electricity islands as a result of the solutions they can provide for energy and environmental crises. With their vast, underutilized resources for energy generation, electricity islands can provide benefits such as lowering carbon emissions and improving living conditions in remote areas. Even if renewable energy is becoming more popular, the economies of these regions are extremely reliant on the importation of fossil fuels to meet their day-to-day demands. Recently, the islands have made a commitment to only using renewable energy. Although making the switch away from non-renewable energy sources is not an easy process, and since these power islands include islands, isolated microgrids, and remote regions, meeting energy demands is difficult. Thus, reliable energy management is needed to run these power islands efficiently. The development of a reliable energy management system has advanced, but there are still questions to be answered. This study examines these islands’ energy goals and obstacles. The novelty of this study is the investigation of the latest energy management systems designed for populated islands, other remote places, and self-sufficient microgrids. Numerous energy management and control algorithms have been examined for their significant contributions, ongoing issues, and future possibilities.
