Design of Electric Vehicle Charging Station Infrastructure Incorporating with Renewable Energy Generation–Battery–Diesel Generation

The development of fast electric vehicle charging station (EVCS) is important to the growth of the EV sector. The scarcity of fossil fuel reserves is one of the world’s most pressing issues. It is necessary to figure out an alternate way for the depletion of non-renewable resources. However, the incorporation of renewable energy into EV charging stations poses both risks and opportunities. This paper suggests a combined solar- and wind-based off-grid EVCS using HOMER software. The proposed EVCS system has been developed for the location of Poonamallee, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. A comprehensive analysis of different hybrid renewable energy systems has been conducted to find the most cost-effective configuration by optimizing the sizing of components to minimize the net present cost of the system. The off-grid PV/WT/DG/BT hybrid system has been identified as the most optimal, delivering the lowest levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) at 0.332 $/KWh and ensuring zero percent unmet load. The LCOE for the hybrid PV/WT/DG system is obtained as 0.428 $/kWh, which is more expensive due to the absence of an energy storage system.
