Unveiling the Multifaceted Antiviral Properties of Cordyceps

Natural organisms repeatedly face difficulties due to pandemics caused by diverse viruses. Thus, the development of novel antiviral medications is critically desired to address this issue. It is anticipated to find new antiviral compounds; however, drug research and advancement are an extremely challenging task. Many medicinal fungi, including Cordyceps, are extensively used worldwide and have the aptitude to boost human immunity and antiviral activity. Cordyceps have a long history of traditional use in Asia and as remedial and dietary supplements because of their aphrodisiac, tonic, and immune-boosting properties, as well as their capacity to reduce fatigue, promote rapid healing from illness, and strengthen immunity. Despite their high cost and widespread demand, Cordyceps are highly sought after worldwide. From the perspectives of human, animal, and plant viruses, an in-depth theory based on enhanced clinical employment as antiviral mediators and mechanisms was retrieved, along with some ground-breaking research on the molecular dynamics and simulations of the most bioactive compound of Cordyceps spp., cordycepin.
