Resilience and Nutri-protection Against Traumatic Brain Injury Prior and Post-injury

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is defined as a physiological disturbance of brain function or a structural impairment caused by trauma as a result of an outside force. Across all age groups and in all nations, TBI is a major worldwide health burden and public health challenge with a growing economic impact on society. Until now, there are no effective treatments for this condition. However, recently nutrition has proven an important role in the treatment of TBI-related injuries and can also have a role in the prevention of the disease. Indeed, patients with TBI displayed increased catabolism This causes protein waste and raises the need for energy and on the other hand undernutrition is linked to worse neurologic outcomes and a higher death rate. To enhance patients’ prognoses after TBI, prompt and efficient nutritional therapy is especially important. An overview of nutrition’s significance in TBI post-injury and even pre-injury treatment is given in this chapter.
