Nutritional Recommendations for TBI Management
摘要
This chapter presents evidence-based nutritional recommendations for the management of traumatic brain injury (TBI). TBI poses significant challenges to physiological functioning, including metabolic disturbances and increased energy expenditure. Proper nutrition plays a crucial role in supporting recovery and minimizing secondary complications. Recommendations include optimizing macronutrient intake to meet energy demands, emphasizing the importance of protein for tissue repair, and ensuring adequate intake of micronutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamins to mitigate oxidative stress and inflammation. Additionally, hydration status should be closely monitored to prevent dehydration, which can exacerbate cognitive deficits and impair recovery. Tailoring nutritional interventions to individual needs, considering factors such as injury severity, comorbidities, and stage of recovery, is essential for maximizing outcomes in TBI management.
