Carbon Nanotube-Based Polymer Nanocomposites for Coating and Photovoltaic Applications

The emerging photovoltaic technology has been regarded as a promising green energy technology. It’s important to increase solar cell efficiency for the growth of mass manufacturing, sustainability, and climate change. Various new and modified photovoltaics have been invented and analyzed, such as dye-sensitized solar cells, hybrid solar cells, polymer solar cells, perovskite, and concentrated solar cells, etc.; there is a variety of techniques that have been followed so far to improve efficiency and low-cost fabrication usage of abundance materials and the device structure. Since the invention of photovoltaics, there have been different types of materials from different branches, such as organic and inorganics. The interesting polymer properties of carbon nanotubes (CNT) attracted the scientific community. This is because incorporating CNT in a polymer matrix significantly changes optoelectrical properties. The polymer carbon nanotube composite is used in different layers of photovoltaic structure to improve efficiency. The chapter started with an introduction to carbon nanotubes, followed by a discussion on their synthesis, and explored the synthesis methodologies for polymer matrix composites. Ultimately, the discussion included many classifications of solar cells and the use of polymer carbon nanotube matrix composites.
