Carbon Nanotube-Polymer Nanocomposites for 3D Printing Technology

摘要

Though it has been available for more than 20 years, 3D printing (3DP) is a revolutionary technology whose full potential was not realized until recently. As a result of this technology's recent growth, researchers are looking for novel materials and additives to satisfy the expanding demand. 3DP makes it possible to fabricate intricate models accurately; however, its structural anisotropy may prevent implementation. A potential remedy for the subpar characteristics of 3DP-based materials in relation to their traditionally produced counterparts may involve the integration of nanoparticles, including carbon nanotubes (CNTs), which exhibit exceptional mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties. Because of their superior thermal and electrical characteristics, CNTs are thought to be the most promising of several nanofillers. Because of their low density, CNT-polymer nanocomposites can, therefore, be employed as lightweight, flexible materials. Moreover, these nanocomposites may be shaped to produce intricate parts using 3D printing technology. In this chapter, the 3DP technology-related studies, products, and challenges are reviewed. The significance of CNT dispersion in the matrix polymer and the potential of 3D-printed CNT-polymer nanocomposites are also discussed.
