The intersection of photochemistry and natural gas chemistry presents promising opportunities for converting methane into valuable commodities through the utilization of sustainable solar energy. Ongoing research and development endeavours in this domain strive to unleash the whole capabilities of photochemical conversion technologies, therefore facilitating the transition towards a more environmentally friendly and efficient chemical industry. This chapter will explore precise photochemical methodologies for the conversion of methane, encompassing photocatalytic reforming, photocatalytic oxidation, and photocatalytic coupling events. Additionally, it will explore the possible economic and environmental advantages of photochemical natural gas conversion, including the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the expansion of chemical feedstock options.
