摘要

Microbes are invaluable components in various industrial and bioproduction processes acting as the source of various commercial products. From the production of metabolites to the microbial cells directly acting as commercial products, they have been a boon to mankind with applications ranging from pharmaceuticals to industrial biotechnology. However, the key to unlocking their full potential lies in meticulous factor optimization. Various factors such as nutrient composition, environmental conditions, and microbial genetic parameters act in synchronization to generate a microbial output. Detailed analysis of these factors is pivotal for maximizing microbial output, where a minor alteration can lead to substantial improvements in yields, efficiency, and product quality. Various strategies from classical trial and error-based approaches to modern mathematical modeling and genetic engineering-based approaches for enhancing bioproduction processes have been developed to achieve this goal. The chapter provides a comprehensive understanding of the historical evolution and application of these optimization processes.
