Settlement Continuity and Urban Linkages in the North-West India: Circa 300 CE–1200 CE
摘要
The present paper studies settlement continuity and urban linkages in the north-west India from circa 300 CE to 1200 CE. The study shows that this region was a centre of activities during this period. The art remains and coins suggest urbanization and continuous habitation. The area provided a congenial environment for the settlements to grow and sustain themselves. All three phases of urbanization are visible in the region. The Harappan cities thrived in the region and post-Harappan phase set a base for the future development in the region which led to the emergence of second and third urban phases in the region. It is difficult to understand the urban phenomenon in its entirety in the region as we have inadequate data at our disposal. However, what is significant is that many of the settlements have a continuous settlement over historical time.
