Fiber X-Ray Detectors

X-ray has become an essential in human’s daily life, extensively used in many fields, like scientific research, medical imaging and nondestructive testing. The X-ray detectorX-ray detector, as one of the most momentous modules of a related equipment, plays a vitally important role in the application of X-ray. At present, X-ray detectors are mainly used for two purposes, dosage detection (single pixel detectors) and imaging (detector arrays). Compared with other counterparts, like flat panel detectors, the fiber ones possess unique superiority due to the geometric characteristic. In dosage detection, the fiber structure results in miniaturization, flexibility and remote measurement. As to imaging, the high length-to-diameter ratio of single fiber leads to not only preeminent performance of suppressed cross-scattering of light, enhanced radiative absorption and improved spatial resolution, also the facile preparation. According to the different interactions between fiber materials and X-ray photons, detection mechanisms of fiber detectors could be classified into indirect and direct type. And the preparation methods of fiber detectors are relatively simple with the participation of fiber optical or template. Besides, the performance parameters of fiberFiber detectors in previous researches are summarized and analyzed. And the remain challenges for fiber detectors and potential solutions are also discussed.
