Endoscopic Medial Wall Orbital Decompression in Thyroid Orbitopathy
摘要
Thyroid eye disease (TED) is an autoimmune disease characterized by the involvement of the eyes due to organ-specific autoantibodies involving the orbit leading to eye changes. It is an extra-thyroid manifestation of Graves’ disease. It affects about 16/100,000 females and 2.9/100,000 males per year [1].TED is most commonly associated with hyperthyroidism but is also seen in hypothyroidism or euthyroid state. Although hyperthyroidism is known to cause a more severe form of TED than hypothyroid and euthyroid TED, a study by Eshargi et al. revealed that dysthyroid optic neuropathy (DON) developed more in hypothyroid than hyperthyroid group [1]. It is a medical condition and responds well to steroids. Surgical intervention is required in cases of dysthyroid optic neuropathy, cosmetic deformity, and exposure keratitis [2, 3].
