Innovative Practices in Online Discussion

This chapter looks at creative approaches to discussion, with a focus on innovative content, ways of involving participants, and variations to online tools. We consider the integration of active and practical learning with AOD and provide specific examples of activities used in online classes. We advocate challenging students’ thinking by allocating leadership roles and eliciting fresh perspectives; inviting guests to participate; and extending the use of a range of digital tools to enrich the discussion.
