Intensity Noise Characteristics of Continuous Wave Supercontinuum Generated in Standard Optical Fiber Pumped with High Power Yb Fiber Lasers

We demonstrate a continuous-wave (CW) supercontinuum in standard telecom optical fibers with an intensity noise of <−125 dBc/Hz over an RF frequency range from 10 to 30 MHz pumped by a low intensity noise 1064 nm Ytterbium (Yb) doped fiber amplifier pump source. The generated SC shows a maximum of 10 dB improvement of intensity noise performance over a bandwidth of 300 nm (from 1400 to 1700 nm) when compared to SC generated with conventional fiber Bragg grating (FBG) cavity based Yb fiber laser.
