Implementing Artificial Intelligence in Wheat Disease Identification: A Mobile Application Approach

Wheat, a crucial crop globally and a staple food for millions, faces numerous disease threats, impacting yields and food security. However, wheat crops are vulnerable to many diseases, which can reduce yields and threaten food security. Therefore, developing accurate and efficient methods for identifying and diagnosing these diseases is essential. Traditional visual inspection methods are laborious and subjective, prompting the exploration of image-based approaches. Image-based identification methods offer a promising alternative, leveraging advances in computer vision and deep learning to detect and diagnose plant diseases from images automatically. In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) techniques have shown great potential for image-based identification of plant diseases in crops, including wheat. This chapter explores the application of AI techniques for wheat disease identification using deep learning. Additionally, it discusses the creation of an image dataset repository for Indian wheat diseases and the development of a user-friendly mobile application to aid farmers in disease detection and management.
