Role of ICT and Artificial Intelligence in Disease Diagnosis, Forecast, and Management

Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) play a pivotal role in disease diagnosis, forecast, and management in agriculture. Referred to as Agriculture Information Technology (AIT), this integration of IT and agriculture has revolutionized traditional farming, enhancing productivity and sustainability. The article explores the development of national databases for crop-specific diseases and insects, expert systems like “EXOWHEM,” “EXPSS,” “AgriDaksh,” “PulsExpert,” “AMRAPALIKA,” “Rice Expert System,” “Tomato Expert System,” and “Rapeseed-Mustard Expert System” for integrated pest management, and various AI-based tools for diagnosing and managing agricultural diseases. Additionally, it discusses the importance of mobile technology in providing farmers with real-time information. Overall, this article highlights the potential of ICT and AI in reshaping agriculture, offering solutions to disease and insect management, and empowering farmers with knowledge for improved crop yields.
