Primary Prevention Approach to Promote Children’s Wellbeing: Introducing Science to Prevention

The Australian Government has introduced policies to improve family wellbeing based on a primary prevention principle that is used in public health. Components of the primary prevention approach are described in this chapter. To improve communication between the disciplines who work in the child protection area, Part 1 of this chapter describes how the primary prevention principle can be applied to welfare topics that impact on the wellbeing of children. Part 2 provides an overview of the steps used in the primary prevention approach and of statistical methods of analysis used in the primary prevention approach.
