Governance refers to those regulatory processes, mechanisms and organizations through which political actors influence environmental actions and outcomes. Governance processes, mechanisms and organizations relevant to sound and health can vary greatly between continents, countries and even regions. In this chapter we present some examples of governance directly relevant to sound and health, from the international to the national level. We then discuss a common shortcoming of current approaches, i.e. that social variations of environmental quality and health are rarely taken into account. We propose the behaviour change wheel as a tool to identify actions that different political actors can take to ensure more equitable outcomes.
