Artificial intelligence (AI) plays an increasingly vital role in digital financial inclusion discussions, particularly those concerning low-socioeconomic strata individuals and businesses. Fintech companies have taken an aggressive stance toward using AI applications for this goal—which seeks to enable low-income individuals, women, youth, and small enterprises access the mainstream financial market through accessing digital financial products such as microlending. Our study performed a comprehensive examination, including conceptual and documentary assessments of peer-reviewed journals, reports, and authoritative documents related to artificial intelligence (AI) and digital financial inclusion. The investigation demonstrated AI's significant impact on digital financial inclusion—in particular risk identification, quantification, management mitigation of information asymmetry issues, customer support through chatbots, as well as fraud detection capabilities as well as cybersecurity. Accordingly, we strongly advise financial institutions, non-financial entities, and governments worldwide to implement AI tools and applications into their operations in order to minimize hurdles while simultaneously increasing benefits associated with including financially vulnerable groups into formal financial markets.
