QoE Assessment of Cooperative Work in Networked Virtual Reality Environment with Haptic Sense: Influence of Network Latency

摘要

This paper investigates the impact of network latency on collaborative activities within a networked virtual reality environment enhanced with haptic feedback, utilizing quality of experience (QoE) assessment as the primary evaluation metric. The assessment focuses on a networked maze system where either a single user or two users engage in the virtual manipulation of a cube, employing haptic interface devices for Holding or Pushing with two roles and raising actions within a cooperative or individual context. Alongside subjective evaluations through mean opinion score (MOS), we quantify various objective performance metrics, including operation time and reaction force. Through multiple regression analysis, we find that these performance metrics are intricately linked to network latency or local lag. Consequently, our findings highlight a robust relationship between reaction force, moving velocity, local lag, network latency, and MOS within the networked maze system featuring haptic feedback. This implies the potential to predict MOS accurately based on objective performance measures.
