Translation from Kannada to Indian Sign Language with an Instructional Avatar to Facilitate Computer Science Education

People who are deaf or have hearing loss frequently use sign language, a visual communication system using finger or hand gesture. Particularly in Indian subcontinent, where it is mostly used by those with disabilities, Indian Sign Language (ISL) provides deaf people with an advanced and standardized form of communication. Regretfully, the general population is largely unaware about ISL. To bridge this knowledge gap, the initiative combines cutting edge technology. The program intends to improve communication and accessibility for ISL users by utilizing these improvements. The novel method involves translating user input in Kannada into English text, which produces a dynamic 3D avatar in the end. This avatar can do precise sign language gestures in line with the translated English text. With a focus on helping users who utilize sign language, the project seeks to raise awareness while also facilitating efficient cross-language interaction and improving accessibility.
