Comparative Study of Grid Synchronization Methods for Grid Connected Inverter in Weak Grid Condition

The incorporation of renewable energy sources into a weak grid characterized by susceptibility to voltage instabilities and harmonic distortions engenders considerable complexities in achieving precise grid phase detection. The synchronization mechanism of power converters is of particular concern, as it is pivotal for grid stability maintenance and mitigation of harmonic injection. This article undertakes a comparative investigation of grid synchronization methodologies encompassing Synchronous Reference Frame-Phase-Locked Loop (SRF-PLL), Dual Second-Order Integrator (DSOGI)-PLL, and PLL-less approaches. The analysis is conducted via theoretical study and simulation studies conducted on the MATLAB platform, facilitating a comprehensive assessment of performance characteristics and suitability for deployment in challenging grid environments.
