Design and Performance Investigation of Closed-Loop Control of the PV System Using MPPT

摘要

The aforementioned paper titled “Design and Performance Investigation of Closed-Loop Control of PV System Using MPPT” brings in the concept of designing a Photo Voltaic (PV) System for generating a constant DC voltage output from the energy derived from sunlight. Since PV arrays having nonlinear characteristics are used for converting solar energy to electrical energy by the photovoltaic effect, there is only one particular point on the curve where the maximum possible amount of power can be drawn. For this reason, a special technique called MPPT is incorporated. This paper presents the use of the Perturb and Observe algorithm-based MPPT technique which utilizes a boost converter for pulling out the maximum amount of electrical energy from solar energy. The PV system designed is meant to be connected to the grid by an inverter, so the output voltage is kept in the range of 500–700 V which is also called the DC link voltage. The entire pattern is successfully simulated in the MATLAB/SIMULINK software, and the final results have been successfully recorded and discussed.
