On the Relationship of a Monarch with His Subjects

With the assistance of Zhong Guan, Duke Huan of Qi succeeded in rallying the other states around him nine times and achieved the leadership of an overlord. This is regarded as a historical model of the monarch-subject relationship. Based on the discussion of the hegemony achieved by Duke Huan, this essay briefly demonstrated how a sagely king achieved the unity and how a worthy minister behaved himself in the eyes of Confucians.
