With the inheritance of the Confucianist tradition, Master Xun recommended King Tang and King Wu’s art of war rather than the strength of offensive strategy advocated by others. He held that a true king should base his military actions on benevolence and righteousness for the purpose of suppressing violence, removing harm, and stabilizing the world instead of contending for profit.
