On Learning
摘要
This is an important essay on the method of learning. It is comprised of two parts: (1) the nature and importance of learning; (2) the content and purpose of learning. It is pointed out at the very beginning that there is no end to learning, the importance of which is demonstrated through two vivid metaphors: from indigo, a green plant, cyan, or greenish blue, is obtained; at a lower temperature, water changes into ice. The secret of success in learning lies in constant self-examination, taking current reality into consideration, and the combination of learning with practice. Only in this way can one become wise and free from errors. The reason why men are born with the same cries but grow in different ways is due to the education they receive and the environment they live in.
