Methodology for Optimization of Routine Maintenance of Road Against Available Budget and Resources by Using Integer Programming
摘要
Routine Maintenance of road is one of the major components of any Road Asset Management system and is the important activities for up keeping roads in serviceable condition and maintaining consistent safety for road users. Lot of studies have been done on optimization of periodic maintenance in India as well as Internationally but very few studies done on optimization of routine maintenance. At present in India, as such no optimization for routine maintenance is in practice at large for the optimum use of manpower, budget, material and machinery for roads. This technical paper deals with the development of methodology for optimization of routine maintenance of road by using Integer Programming, which is one of the classical optimization techniques. Additionally, the application of methodology is also presented by considering a hypothetical road project and its related maintenance data based on Authors experience in road and highways Industry. Demonstrating the methodology by an example, shows the effectiveness of the use of integer programming for optimization of routine maintenance under constraints of available budget and resources. The optimization will also help in efficient planning and allocation of resources for routine maintenance activities.
