Introduction

The domain of foreign policy studies are constantly at flux. In fact the dominant literature on foreign policy maintains that, it is the national interestNational interest of a state which moulds and influences the contours, substance and direction of its foreign policy making of any state. Broadly, this idea of national interestNational interest consists of a state’s obligation to defend its national security, maximise its economic potential and enhance its cultural assets, among others. This volume makes an attempt to delve deeper into such dominant debates on the making and unmaking of India’s Foreign Policy in the past seventy five years. It attempts to highlight the actors and factors those have played a crucial role in the framing of India’s foreign policy in the changing world order and also seeks to understand the recent trends in the discourse of the same. Taking a step ahead from the existing literatures and using a parameter of  modest suggestions with implications for the future policy course, this work seeks to sketch out India’s Foreign Policy narratives with special attention to the bilateral, conventional and emerging trends.
