摘要

Weekend tourism, a trend increasingly embraced by urban residents seeking immersive experiences beyond their daily routines, has found a promising destination in Kerala. With its rich cultural heritage and awe-inspiring landscapes, Kerala offers a unique blend of experiences that can captivate even the most seasoned urbanite. This case study delves into the historic crowdfunding campaign of the Statue of Liberty, led by Joseph Pulitzer in the late nineteenth century. By drawing insights from this campaign, our study aims to explore the potential of historical crowdfunding models to invigorate weekend tourism in Kerala. The application of such models can significantly enhance Kerala’s tourism sector, offering unique and immersive experiences to urban residents. By examining the historical nuances, mechanisms, and impacts of the Statue of Liberty’s fundraising endeavor, this study endeavors to identify parallels and actionable insights that could potentially enrich Kerala’s weekend getaway promotion strategies. Crowdfunding campaigns, as we will demonstrate, have the potential to serve as catalysts for responsible tourism by addressing cultural preservation, community engagement, and sustainability. This can result in mutual benefits for both tourists, who gain unique experiences, and local communities, who see economic and cultural benefits.
