Globally, the pulp and paper sector has made significant strides in wastewater and process water treatment, reducing the amount of pollutants released into receiving waters. This review discusses various wastewater treatment techniques that offer the pulp and paper industries affordable means of reducing the release of pollutants such as solids, colour, toxicity, and other indicators of pollutant load, as well as biological or chemical oxygen demand. Traditional wastewater treatment methods have been extensively used in the pulp and paper industry. These methods typically involve primary clarification and subsequently activated sludge processes. Secondary, tertiary, and advanced treatments that may include anaerobic biological stages, sophisticated oxidation procedures, bioreactors, membrane filtration technologies, and electrochemical procedures can accomplish higher levels of pollutant removal. Sustainable practices in Pulp and Paper Industry can be a great alternative to reduce wastewater and effluent management.

摘要
