This aligns with the initiatives of the Indian Union Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), which has been promoting eco-friendly waste management practices. The paper highlights the significant challenge of untreated wet waste in urban India, which accounts for approximately 32% of the total waste generated daily, leading to environmental concerns. In addition, the study emphasizes the critical role played by microorganisms like bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and metazoans in the decomposition and conversion of organic waste into valuable compost and organic fertilizers. This aligns with the growing trend of organic farming in India, promoting soil fertility while minimizing reliance on chemical alternatives. The study underlines the multiple benefits of utilizing microorganisms in waste management, including reduced environmental pollution and optimized resource utilization. Furthermore, the present study stresses the importance of developing comprehensive guidelines and best practices for integrating microbial-based solutions into mainstream waste management systems, fostering a more resilient and sustainable environmental framework with a green economy for the future.
