Overview of the Concept: Disaster and Climate Risk Education

Disasters caused by natural hazards have become more frequent and intense in recent years, and these events are being exacerbated by climate change. As a result, the importance of disaster and climate risk education (DCRE) in building community resilience and preparedness all around the world has been increasingly recognised. Despite its significance, challenges to the effectiveness of DCRE implementation include socioeconomic factors, financial constraints, and governance structures. Innovative approaches are required to address these issues, with a focus on school education, community education, governance frameworks, and technology. Prioritising these areas will help to improve DCRE initiatives and build more resilient and adaptable communities in the face of increasing environmental challenges. The purpose of this chapter is to give a general overview of the idea of DCRE, including its importance, goals, and key components, as well as to summarise the book outline.
