MOFs for Nitroaromatic Compound Degradation

摘要

Nitroaromatic compounds (NACs) are widely used organic compounds. They are used as intermediate or basic constituents of various organic compounds such as agrochemicals, dyes, medicines, and explosives. Due to their extensive use, they are found in various environmental media like water, soil, and air. NACs are carcinogenic, mutagenic, and toxic to living organisms. These compounds are not degradable in regular environmental conditions due to their stable chemical structure. All of the qualities such as wide use, persistence, and hazardous nature make it a priority pollutant in the USEPA list. For the remediation of NACs, various methods like adsorption, precipitation, and degradation are used. Among all these methods, degradation is a widely used and convenient method for nitroaromatic remediation. For the degradation of NACs, biological and chemical methods are used. In this book chapter, we have explained the diverse aspects used for the degradation of NACs by using metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). The fundamental concept of NACs and their degradation mechanism has also been explained based on current literature to maintain the researcher's interest in this enormously significant field.
