Design Aspects of MOFs for Catalytic Degradation

Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), with their unique porous structures and tunable chemical properties, offer tremendous potential as catalysts for the degradation of various pollutants. This work provides a comprehensive overview of the design and use of MOFs in catalytic degradation applications. Firstly, the desirable properties of MOFs that makes it as promoting pollutant degradation. These including their high surface area, diverse metal centers, and tailored ligands are discussed. Based on these well adapted properties, the mechanism action of MOF on the pollutants has also been explored. Additionally, challenges associated with MOFs, such as stability under harsh conditions, mass transfer limitations, and catalyst recovery, are discussed. Lastly, the work concludes with prospects and opportunities for further advancements in the use of MOFs as catalysts for catalytic degradation. Overall, the use of MOFs in catalytic degradation holds great promise for environmental remediation, and this review provides a comprehensive understanding of their applications, mechanisms, challenges, and future directions.
