Challenges and Future Prospective of Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs) for Catalytic Degradation of Organic Pollutants

摘要

In the past few years, the concentration of dye and organic pollutants in water is continuously enhancing, and it is posing a major threat to our society. There are lot of methods to degrade these organic pollutants. However, photocatalysis has attracted much more attention than any other method in the research community. In photocatalysis, the quantum efficiency issue exits due to low-visible light response and electron–hole regeneration. To resolve this problem, Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs) and MOFs-based materials are the prime candidates which are used as heterogeneous catalyst for the degradation of dye and organic pollutants in wastewater via photocatalysis. However, there are a lot of challenges in the field of MOFs such as (1) toxicity, (2) low thermal stability, (3) recyclability, and (4) synthesis. In this chapter, challenges in the synthesis and applications of MOFs with a focus on catalytic degradation of organic pollutants are discussed. The possibilities of improvement and future perspectives in this field are also discussed.
