Experimental Investigation on MRR in Wire EDM of S31803 Profile Surface with Different Currents

A wire EDM process is a sophisticated procedure for cutting complex profiles. The machined surface of high strength alloys should be highly polished in order to increase the removal rate. The current work focuses on MRR with surface finish by varying pulse on/off times on different thickness profiles while maintaining a constant distance at the nozzle. The output response of Taguchi is optimized using an L16 orthogonal array. Designed for combining with water immersed workpieces that have three varying parameters and four levels. MRR changed with the increase of thickness and pulse off time. The experiments aim to determine how changing the thickness profile and pulse on/off periods affected the material removal rate (MRR) and surface quality of the workpiece. Using the Taguchi orthogonal array, optimized the experiment's output response and found that increasing the thickness and pulse-off time led to a higher MRR. Pulse on time also varied in four steps: 4, 6, 8, and 10 s to check the MRR increment. Among all the experiments, the best results were obtained with 10 mm thickness material with an 8 s on time and 4 s off time.
