Experimental Study for Removal of Pb and Cu from Industrial Wastewater by Using Low-Cost Adsorbent (Banana Peel)

摘要

Heavy metals have become a severe pollutant in water because of its non-biodegradable and hazardous properties. In this research paper, banana peel powder is used as bio-adsorbent to remove heavy metals from textile industrial wastewater. This wastewater contains variety heavy metals like chromium and copper. Although there are various treatment methods before disposal, which will not be productive in the removal of heavy metals, some of the heavy metals which are available in even smaller amount will cause a greater pollution. Conventional methods are not very productive and are costly and require high energy consumption. This study therefore verifies that banana peel is a promising adsorbent for the removal of chromium and copper from textile effluent. Higher removal efficiency was observed 92% and 90% for Pb and Cu, respectively. Adsorption is well known as productive and economic method for low concentration heavy metal wastewater treatment.
