Nanoscale Coatings for Outdoor Gear Textiles

Outdoor activities have gained maximum attention in the past two decades. These outdoor activities like, hiking, skiing, trekking, or beaching, require specific textiles as the purposes are specific. For fulfilling the said purposes, functional textiles were manufactured. Various functional finishes had been applied with coating techniques on the selected fabric. The major application style was coating, and therefore, it attracted scholars. The nanoscale coating was one of them. Various garments required for outdoor activities such as jackets, tents, socks, shoes, trousers, and tent are prepared by various nano-coating techniques by using different precursors and additives. The fabric must possess UV-resistant, waterproof, water-repellent, windproof, moisture-wicking, antimicrobial properties as per its application in outdoor activities, and so the chapter includes various functional finishes performed on the textiles that will be functioned for outdoor activities. Also, the chapter deals with some examples of products used for outdoor activities, and their manufacture with coated functional finishes.
