Biomaterials for Cardiovascular Applications

  • Deepa Suhag

摘要

Biomaterials have emerged as indispensable tools in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of cardiovascular diseases, offering innovative solutions to complex clinical challenges. Biomaterials play a pivotal role in the development of devices such as stents, vascular grafts, and heart valves. These devices are meticulously engineered to interact harmoniously with the cardiovascular system, restoring blood flow, repairing damaged tissues, and enhancing patient quality of life. With advancements in biomaterial science, materials with tailored properties such as biocompatibility, mechanical strength, and durability are being developed to address specific clinical needs and challenges. They hold promise in the field of regenerative medicine, offering innovative strategies for tissue engineering and repair. Bioactive scaffolds, growth factors, and cell-based therapies are being explored to promote tissue regeneration, enhance vascularization, and improve myocardial function in patients with ischemic heart disease or heart failure. These regenerative approaches have the potential to transform the treatment landscape by addressing the root causes of cardiovascular disorders and promoting long-term cardiac repair and regeneration. Biomaterials are driving advancements in personalized medicine and precision therapeutics, enabling tailored treatment strategies based on individual patient characteristics and disease profiles. From drug-eluting stents that release therapeutic agents to targeted drug delivery systems and bioresorbable implants, biomaterials are facilitating the development of novel therapies with enhanced efficacy and reduced adverse effects.
