Effect of Natural Dyeing on Chitosan treated Cotton Fabric Using Selected Sources
摘要
Dyeing, the process of applying colours to the textile material involves natural and synthetic dyes. The application of natural dye to textile materials is reduced since the introduction of synthetic dyes. World sustainability paved the way back for the usage of natural dyes in textiles. The natural dyes extracted from various natural sources are dyed with the help of mordants known as fixing agents. In this study, Aloe vera is used as a natural mordant, to fix the dye extracted from the marigold flowers on 2 × 2 cotton fabric. Since the cellulosic fibres have less affinity to the natural dyeing than protein fibres, chitosan which is known for its good absorption and adsorption is used to pre-treat the cotton fabric in the dip and dry method to check the affinity of the natural dye to the cotton. The dyeing was carried out with different dyeing methods and tested for its properties.
