Development of Multi-layered Stab Protection Fabrics Using UHMWPE, a Blend of UHMWPE/Polyester and HPPE UD Laminate Material
摘要
Protective body armor that offers protection against stabs has long been the subject of intense interest. A lightweight and flexible body armor can satisfy fit, comfort, and protection. This study was conducted on single and multilayer fabrics of UHMWPE and a blend of UHMWPE/polyester (70/30) plain woven fabric with HPPE unidirectional laminate. A comparative study has been done between these two developed fabrics concerning their tensile, tear, abrasion, cut, and stab resistance. The stab testing of UHMWPE and UHMWPE/polyester fabric was done according to the standard VPAM KDIW 2004. The evaluation was based on determining the depth of penetration for both woven fabric and HPPE UD laminate against the knife strike. The present work indicated that the combination of UHMWPE woven fabrics and HPPE UD laminates can improve stab protection. The optimum combination of woven and HPPE UD laminate layers was found respectively.
