Smart Farming Management System: Pre and Post-Production Interventions
摘要
This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of the agricultural landscape, focusing on the integration of advanced technologies to revolutionize farming practices. The necessity of smart farming in addressing global challenges such as increasing food demand, resource scarcity, and the impacts of climate change has been highlighted. Smart farming, driven by technologies like precision agriculture, digital farming, artificial intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT), aims to enhance crop yield, reduce resource waste, and improve overall efficiency. The content delves into various interventions in agriculture, including precision machinery, robotics, irrigation water management, and postharvest management. It discusses how precision machinery and AI-driven technologies optimize agricultural processes, reduce labor costs, and improve productivity. Robotics, such as autonomous vineyard management robots and fruit harvesting robots, offer innovative solutions to labor-intensive tasks and enhance operational efficiency. Furthermore, the importance of irrigation water management in sustainable agriculture, showcasing technologies like soil water sensing, automated irrigation systems, and satellite monitoring for precise irrigation scheduling and early detection of crop water stress, has been emphasized. In the realm of postharvest management, smart farming explores the role of AI in automating sorting, grading, and packaging operations, leading to improved quality control and reduced post-harvest losses. Smart farming highlights advancements in deep learning (DL) for detecting food adulteration and thermal imaging for identifying bruises in agricultural produce. Overall, this chapter presents a comprehensive view of how the integration of advanced technologies in smart farming management systems enhances agricultural sustainability, productivity, and ensures food security in the face of evolving global challenges.
